Peter instructs us not once not twice but three times in this short letter to be SOBER nbsp The Greek word he uses for sober however means more than merely not being out of control due to intoxication nbsp It means to be sensible reasonable aware and responsible in how we live our lives to honor the Lord our God nbsp In chapter 1 verse 13 we read Therefore because you have such a great salvation ahead of you with minds that are alert and fully SOBER set your hope nbsp on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming nbsp nbsp In chapter 5 verse 8 we are told to Be alert and of SOBER mind Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour 9 Resist him standing firm in the faith And in today s reading 1 Peter 4 7-11 7 Therefore because the end of all things is near be alert and of SOBER mind so that you may pray nbsp 8 Above all love each other deeply because love covers over a multitude of sins 9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling nbsp 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God s grace in its various forms nbsp Click here to visit this podcast episode
