Week 10 in the NFL
Week 9 in the NFL
As the calendar turns to November and the NFL season hits the halfway mark the playoff picture starts to take shape. At this point of the season we start seeing the separation between the haves and the have nots of the league. A bevy of entertaining football games this week as well as some spectacular individual performances. Week 9 did not disappoint.

Melancholy in Minnesota (Niners lose to the Vikings)
Nasty Work! (Week 3 in the NFL)
All types of nasty work during week 3 of the NFL season! Miami hung 70 in the beleaguered Broncos in a 50-point route. At one point of the Bears and Chiefs game the Kansas City Chiefs had more points (41) than Bears QB Justin Fields had passing yards (39). Sam Howell had more turnovers than a bakery in a 37-3 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Upset of the week was the Arizona Cardinals dressed as life sixed maxi pads defeating the Dallas Cowboys in the desert. My beloved 49ers took care of the Giants 30-12 on Thursday Night Football. And last but not least my favorite QB, Jimmy Garopollo, validated everything I ever said about on Sunday Night vs Pittsburgh.
Grand Opening, Grand Closing (Trey Lance is traded to Dallas)
It all happened so fast. Seemed like yesterday I was celebrating the arrival of Trey Lance. A young, dynamic, dual threat, athletic QB that the 49ers needed to get to the next level is now a member of the Dallas Cowboys after 3 tumultuous seasons in San Francisco. Once a promising young player has now been labeled the biggest bust in NFL history and must start anew in Dallas.
Everybody Hates Trey Lance
Trey Lance had a rough day on Sunday vs the Las Vegas Raiders. The numbers say he played well (10-15, 112 yards, 1 TD) but the numbers don't tell the whole story. His up and down erratic performance has led to widespread criticism and condemnation from fans and media. Some fair, mostly unfair. The 3rd year QB is struggling but is the reaction and vitriol appropriate given the circumstances?

Why Eboni K Williams Said Nothing Wrong
Attorney, author, activist, and TV news anchor Eboni K Williams has found herself in hot water for saying that she would not date a bus driver. Many have accused her of job shaming and denigrating working class black men which I find ludicrous. There's nothing wrong with having standards, expectations, setting boundaries and knowing what you want. There's nothing wrong with being a bus driver, but a relationship between an attorney and a bus driver would never work for multiple reasons.
Game 2 Lakers and Warriors Recap (NBA Playoffs Talk)
Curry and Lebron, One More TIme
The 2 biggest stars in the NBA match up agaisnt each other in the playoffs for possibly the last time. Steph Curry and Lebron James have defined the modern era of NBA basketball. 4 iconic matchups in the NBA Finals and a play-in tournament game in the past and now they meet once more in the semifinals of the Western Conference playoffs. 2 legends of the sport in another high stakes battle for basketball supremacy and I can't wait to see it.
Warriors and Lakers Game 1 Recap
The much anticipated NBA 2nd round playoff series between the Golden State Warriors and LA Lakers began last night and did not disappoint. 117-112, Lakers with the Game 1 victory on the road in San Francisco. Dominant performance by Anthony Davis last night (30 pts, 23 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 blocks) exposing the Warriors lack of size. Outstanding defensive effort from Jerrod Vanderbilt and Dennis Schroeder defending Steph Curry. All around great team performance. Warriors fans are already complaining about officiating as the Lakers steal homecourt to begin the series.
NBA Playoff Talk
The Memphis Grizzlies are who we thought they were, a clownish basketball team full of false bravado and immaturity. The young Grizzlies wrote checks their ass couldn't cash and looked foolish after a 125-85 annihilation courtesy of the Los Angeles Lakers. Golden State finds itself in game 7 after a missed opportunity to close out the Sacramento Kings. Jimmy Butler channeled his inner Micheal Jordan and propelled the Miami Heat to a 1st round upset over the Milwaukee Bucks. Knicks and Celtics advanced this week after dispatching Cleveland and Atlanta respectively. The 2nd round of the NBA playoffs is upon us and the championship chase is as open as it's ever been.
For the Foreseeable Future (Aaron Rodgers is officially a Jet)
It's official, 4 time NFL league MVP Aaron Rodgers is the starting QB for the New York Jets. The mercurial QB has been traded to New York following a tumultuous exit from the Green Bay Packers. After 18 seasons Rodgers has found a new home. Will he deliver a championship to the long-suffering franchise? Remains to be seen. One thing is for certain, it will be entertaining regardless of the outcome.
NBA Western Conference Playoff Talk
NBA Playoffs have begun and things have gotten off to an action packed start. The Western Conference Playoffs is the focus of this episode of The Dion Gordon Podcast. Warriors and Kings is must see TV with the series squared up at 2 games apiece. Lakers have a 2-1 advantage over the young Memphis Grizzlies amidst a personal rivalry between LeBron James and miniscule role player Dillon Brooks. Suns are about to advance over the Clippers after the unfortunate injury to Kawhi Leonard. And the Denver Nuggets lead the Minnesota Timberwolves in a series no one outside of Minnesota and Denver give a shit about.
Wrestlemania Night 2 Recap
I wish I could say that night 2 of Wrestlemania did not disappoint, but I can't. Night 2 of the "Showcase of the Immortals" left a lot to be desired. Underwhelming matches, Shane McMahons knee leaving his body, and a disappointing end to the main event left a lot of fans unfulfilled. Roman Reigns is closing in on 1000 days as champ as Cody Rhodes story doesn't finish with a Hollywood ending.
Wrestlemania Night 1 Recap
Night 1 of Wrestlemania 39 was a celebration of all things that make wrestling awesome. Paying off long running storylines, good guys winning, extravagant entrances, and tremendous in ring action. We crowned new champions in Rhea Ripley, Sami Zayn, and Kevin Owens and had an appearance by the legendary John Cena who lost to ascending superstar Austin Theory. The Showcase of the Immortals got off to a great start on the 1st night of the 2 night extravaganza.
Carpe Diem (The Time is Now for Trey Lance)
There's only so long you can exist on potential. Trey Lance has a high ceiling but so far 49er fans have been less than impressed with what he's shown. Brock Purdy is the leader in the clubhouse to be QB1 of the 49ers but all hope is not lost for the former 1st round pick. The 49ers brass of John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan indirectly made it known to Trey that its now or never.
Goodbye and Good Riddance (Jimmy Garoppolo is off the 49ers)
This is the day that the lord has made let us all rejoice and be glad in it! Both Jimmy Garoppolo and Mike McGlinchey are off the 49ers and I couldn't be any happier. It was long past time to move on from both men and the news of the day has brought great joy to your favorite podcaster. Vaya Con Dios my friend, Vaya Con Dios.
Lamar Jackson and his Contract Conundrum
Lamar Jackson, superstar NFL QB for the Baltimore Ravens, finds himself in a contract conundrum. The contract he's asking for is not the contract he's being offered. The 2 sides are at an impasse and now the Ravens have placed a non-exclusive franchise tag on the star QB. Will Lamar remain in Baltimore? Or will another team make a deal for him?

Super Bowl 57 Recap
Super Bowl 57 is already in the conversation for greatest Super Bowl of all time. A competitive and compelling contest between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs came down to the wire in a 38-35 victory for KC. Superb QB play from both Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes but in the end, it was 15 in red who emerged as a 2-time Super Bowl champion and has already cemented himself as first ballot hall of famer before the age of 30.
Lebron Deserves His Credit
History was made in the NBA last night as Lebron James scored 38 points to eclipse the NBA all time scoring record that was held by Kareem Abdul Jabbar for 39 years. An amazing accomplishment and another accomplishment in a stellar 21 year career that shows no signs of slowing down.
Niners lose the NFC Championship.....again
Another year, another playoff disappointment for the 49ers. This time it was a 31-7 soul crushing defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles. 49ers lost 2 QBs in the game including Brock Purdy who went down early with an elbow injury. A bitter end for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.
NFL Divisional Reactions
And then there were 4! NFL Divisional weekend is over and done with and its Kansas City, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and San Francisco who advance to conference title game Sunday.
NFL Divisional Predictions
We are down to the NFL version of the Elite 8! NFL Divisional round weekend is upon us. Chiefs ,Jaguars, Bills, Bengals, Eagles, Giants, 49ers, and Cowboys will all compete for NFL supremacy and try to move one step closer to the most important event in Western civilization, the Super Bowl.
NFL Super Wild Card Recap
NFL Super Wild Card weekend did not disappoint. Brock Purdy was electric for the 49ers. Chargers snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and blew a 27-0 lead to the Jaguars. Bills made it a little too xlose for comfort before eventually holding on to win vs Miami. Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley led the Giants to a big road win against the fraudulent Minnesota Vikings. Cincinnati survived a slugfest against the Baltimore Ravens and the Dallas Cowboys destroy the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
NFL Super Wild Card Weekend Preview
The race to Glendale, AZ and Super Bowl 57 begins this weekend with 6 playoff games on NFL Super Wild Card Weekend! I make my predictions about each game and how I see the games shaping up in this edition of The Dion Gordon Podcast.
NFL End of Regular season Wrap Up
Week 18 in the books and the 2022 NFL regular season has come to a close. As always there are a plethora of storylines to talk in the NFL. Playoff matchups have been set, coaches have been fired, Lamar Jacksons contract situation, and the continued recovery of Bills safety Damar Hamlin, are all discussed on this episode of the Dion Gordon Podcast.
Damar Hamlin
A shocking and terrifying scene on Monday Night Football as Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed to the ground unconscious after making a tackle on Bengals WR Tee Higgins. Hamlin would need on field CPR to resuscitate him and was transported to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition. He has since regained neurological function and has had the breathing tube removed today. The fallout from the incident and cancellation of the game prompted the NFL to come up with convoluted playoff scenarios to try and maintain competitive equity.
The Attitude Era (Brock Purdy is relevant for the 49ers)
In a matchup of my favorite team vs my favorite player it was my team that prevailed. The San Francisco 49ers eviscerated Tom Brady and the Buccaneers 35-7 and it wasnt even that close. Brock Purdy so far has been a revelation at QB for the Niners. His exceptional play alongside an elite defense has kept the 49ers in the Super Bowl conversation.
Kyrie Irving
Deja Vu Again, Again (49ers rebound vs Rams)
Anytime the 49ers need to get right all they have to do is play the LA Rams. Coming off that emasculating loss at home vs Kansas City the 49ers bounced back with a resounding 31-14 win vs their hated division rival. For the 4th straight regular season San Francisco sweeps the season series with LA. Jimmy Garoppolo was excellent and efficient with a 21-25,235, and 2 TD performance. The newly acquired Christian McCaffrey scored 3 TDs in 3 different ways and Kyle Shanahan coached circles against his son Sean McVay.
K.C. Masterpiece (Chiefs annihilate the 49ers)
The rematch of Super Bowl 54 was proof that the 2 participants of that game in 2020 are worlds apart in 2022. Kansas City absolutely destroyed San Francisco with explosive plays and offensive imagination. 49er defense failed their first true test of the season in an embarrassing display of defensive futility. 49er offense couldn't pick up the slack despite a plethora of weapons including their newest addition, Christian McCaffrey. An overall pathetic performance from a team that has Super Bowl aspirations.
Super Bowl or Bust (49ers trade for Christian McCaffrey)
A blockbuster trade on Thursday saw the Carolina Panthers deal star RB Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers in a move that shook the NFL world to its core! The prolific RB should provide a boost to a stagnant offense that already has a plethora of playmakers. With the addition McCaffrey to an already star- studded offense, the expectations for the 49ers are clear, win the Super bowl.
A-Town Down (49ers lose to Atlanta 28-14)
Injuries and offensive futility spelled doom for the 49ers vs the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday. Costly turnovers and lack of execution didn't help the cause and the coach/QB combination of Kyle Shanahan and Jimmy Garoppolo are stuck in neutral offensively.
De Ja Vu All Over Again (49ers destroy the Rams on Monday Night again)
Backs against the wall, season on the brink of disaster, panic among the faithful, coming off an embarrassing loss, and the 49ers once again annihilate the LA Rams on Monday Night to save their season. Where have we seen this movie before? Similar to 2021 the Niners show their mettle with everyone doubting them. A dominant defense and an efficient albeit still underwhelming offense led the way in a 24-9 triumph.
Mile Low (Jimmy Garoppolo loses to the Denver Broncos)
5280 miles above sea level and Jimmy Garoppolo reaches new heights of ineptitude. A performance that can only be described as No Limit sneaker ugly wasted an outstanding performance by the defense en route to a 11-10 loss in the Mile High city. 49ers fall to 1-2 and are already at a crossroads for a team that thought they were Super Bowl ready.
Out With the New and In with The Old (Niners win but lose Lance for the season)
If there is a such thing as a bittersweet win you saw that today in Santa Clara. 49ers snap a 4-game losing streak to their hated rival the Seattle Seahawks but lose their starting QB Trey Lance in the process. Now the man who a month ago was on the way out, Jimmy Garoppolo, is back in and the 49ers were able to pick up victory #1 on the 2022 season.
Sink or Swim (49ers Drown in Chicago)
A disappointing season opener sees the San Francisco 49ers lose to the Chicago Bears 19-10. A water-soaked field aided in the unraveling of the presumed favorite along with 12 penalties, 2 turnovers, and failure to execute in the red zone. QB Trey Lance had a less than stellar oerformance which unfortunately gives voice to his many critics who think that Jimmy Garoppolo should be the starter. Niners look to bounce back at home vs their hated rival, the Seattle Seahawks who are coming off a surprise upset of the Denver Broncos on Monday Night.
Just When You Think He's Out, They Pull Him Right Back In
Jimmy Garoppolo is staying with the 49ers. No one wanted to trade for him and none of the 49ers backup QBs inspired much hope. The most polarizing QB in 49er history remains on the roster for at least one more year.
