Planet of Lana, We can't Agree on This Game

Planet of Lana, We can't Agree on This Game

Planet of Lana takes inspiration from games like Limbo and Inside. These puzzle walking sims are not for everyone but Cory and Basher can't agree on if you should play Planet of Lana. The puzzle are simple, the art isn't complex but the presentation resonated with Cory. Basher disagrees and thinks there isn't a story here and the art isn't enough to carry it past the finish line. With a run time of 3-4 hours there is still debate on if Planet of Lana is worth your time.

Xbox 2023 Summer Showcase and Starfield Predictions, Is This THE Showcase for Xbox?

Xbox 2023 Summer Showcase and Starfield Predictions, Is This THE Showcase for Xbox?

Xbox has a lot to prove in 2023. With Redfall releasing to well-deserved backlash, the ongoing delay for games like Starfield and Hellblade, and the lack of information on already announced games like Fable and Perfect Dark, Xbox has a lot to prove. There's the joke of always waiting till next year for Microsoft to deliver the games, but in 2023, Xbox has to actually start delivering on the promise of Xbox Game Pass and show why they've purchased so many studios over the past 5 years.

Loop Hero, Tactical 360's

Loop Hero is a Rouge-like that sends the player on a quest to build up their town and survive many creatures. Each loop is another chance to take your equipment and supplies you have found back to home base. But as always with a Rouge-Like, that desire to keep going for better loot is there.

Redfall, This Should Have Been Cancelled

Redfall is a game that is so bad we have to talk about. You should not play Redfall. We are going against our normal format just to talk about how Redfall should have been cancelled. No amount of patches will fix this game. It is fundamentally flawed to the point it should be forgotten.

Shadow Warrior 3 and Soul Hackers 2, Hacking Wangs

Wo Long Fallen Dynasty, Soulslike Featuring Dynasty Warriors

Wo Long Fallen Dynasty is one hundred percent a different take on games like Dark Souls and Nioh. It wears its inspiration with pride. Doom 64: It's not the 64th Doom

Doom 64 is a often forgotten about game. Even some of the most avid Doom fans have never slayed the totally unique Doom 64. It's a game that was trapped on the Ninten 64 but finally in 2020 Nightdive and ID Software released it to other platforms. Filled with original sprites, levels and secrets, Doom 64 is a must play for Doom fans. But what about other players? Should you hop into Doom 64 in 2023?

Serious Sam 4, Its Seriously Not Fun

Serious Sam 4, Its Seriously Not Fun

Serious Sam started out as a callback to earlier days of FPS games. When shooters were more simple. Times when Wolfenstein and Doom carried the genre with great level design and fun game play. Serious Sam 4 looks to leave some of that legacy behind but instead bring what it created forward. Unfortunately, due to performance issues on console and weirdly bad level design, Serious Sam 4 lacks a lot of fun.

Chained Echoes and Walking Dead The Final Season, These Games Couldn't be More Different

Chained Echoes and Walking Dead The Final Season, These Games Couldn't be More Different

What does a 16 bit SNES callback RPG known as Chained Echoes have to do with TellTales The Walking Dead The Final Season have in common? Absolutely nothing. CHained Echoes is the RPG that hit Game Pass and has created a lot of love from fans of the SNES era JRPG's such as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy. Will it win over Basher and his growing tiredness of callback games?

Cory spent time with The Walking Dead The Final Season from Telltale. WIth the first season of The Walking Dead causing a huge splash it was also the beigging of the end for Telltale as they quickly because a household name that took on so many projects it eventually ended in tragedy. How does the final season of the game that put them in the mainstream eyes play out?

Game Pass 2022 in Review, Microsoft's First Party Needs Help

2022 has come to a close that means its time to take a look at the Gaming Industry as whole and state how we feel about Xbox Game Pass and Microsoft and its gaming initiative. 2022 saw very few first party games from Microsoft and the delay of Starfield and Redfall which still have no definitive dates. 2023 looks to be better with Hellbalde 2 and Forza Motorsport on the way but are those titles with Game Pass enough for 2023?

Vampire Survivors, Take The Garlic

Vampire Survivors, Take The Garlic

Sometimes a game comes along you weren't expecting. But its even more rare a game comes along that you drop 40 hours into you weren't expecting. Vampire Survivors might not have any vampires but what it does have is one of the most addicting and mysterious rabbit holes of content gaming has ever seen. While its not flashy with its 2d sprites and game play that requires only movement, it's design will keep you playing and tempt you to go just one more one.

Prodeus, A Modern Day Doom Clone

Prodeus, A Modern Day Doom Clone

The phase Doom clone was very prevalent in the 90s. Many different genres and IP took the Doom engine and made their own spin. Even IP like Star Wars got into the mix with Dark Forces. Prodeus looks to capture that energy but introduce modern rendering techniques and design to make something familar yet new. With over 50 levels to fight your way through, does Prodeus live up to that high bar it self for itself?

Somerville, This Town Needs The Men In Black

From the minds that brought you Limbo and Inside comes Somerville. A puzzle based game that takes players on a journey through a world that was devastated by some type of alien invasion. Scorn, Why is Everything a Penis?

Scorn wears its inspirations right on it sleeve. The inspirations from things like Alien are present but imitation is the finest form of flattery? When it comes to gameplay however the story changes some. Built like a first person adventure game with light FPS mechanics, Scorn looks to win you over with its vast array of odd finger shaped holes to explore. Does this first person adventure have what it takes to break out of that Walking Simulator cliche?

Metal Hellsinger and Chinatown Detective Agency, Solve the Metal Mystery

On this dual episode we have two games that couldn't be more different. Metal Hellsinger is a first person rhythm based shooter that asks the players to shoot enemies on the beat. The better in sync you are the more heavy and energetic the music gets. Chinatown Detective Agency is far more relaxed and takes ideas from the older Where in the World is Carmen San Diego titles that want you to use real world locations and clues to solve mysteries.

As Dusk Falls, Road 97, Story Driven Adventures Await

In this dual episode Cory tackled the narrative adventure As Dusk Falls and Basher went on a road trip in Road 97. Two games that are somewhat similar but also very different. As Dusk Falls tells a 6-8 hour story filled with narrative choices and adventures that are quite dark and very gut wrenching at times. While Road 97 also tells a story, its a bit more personal and gives people more insight to their own feelings and beliefs in the current world around us.

PowerWash Simulator, Why is This So Good?

PowerWash Simulator is one of the most basic ideas in gaming history. You have a power washer and you clean things. Thats it. Thats really it. However, somehow, PowerWash Simulator has taken over the thought and mindset of many. Is it the fact you get to power wash a giant mythical shoe? Or maybe its the giant skate park that has so much grime you can't help but be satisfied when its all clean? Nobody knows except that we can't stop playing it.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredders Revenge, COWABUNGA

There's a good chance if you have been in an arcade at some point you've seen a TMNT II cabinet. The beat em genre has its classics like TMNT and X-Men as well as its at home classics like Streets of Rage and Golden Axe. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredders Revenge is looking to rekindle those nostalgic feels while also applying some modern flare to the mix in effort to modernize and bring some fun in for new players.

Chrous, Flying in Space Has Never Felt This Good

Chrous, Flying in Space Has Never Felt This Good

Chorus is a game that deserves more players. Its a game that has brilliance in many areas but also features some maddening tropes in gaming that take the overall experience down a few notches. Flying around and dog fighting in Chorus legitimately might be the best feeling air combat game ever made. Combine this with a visual presentation that is stunning and vast and you would have a game that everyone must play.

However, the Ubisoft style mission structure that for whatever reason has become popular with the mainstream gamer rears its head in and brings down the overall package quite a bit. The question is, does it bring it down enough to make this a skip on Game Pass or Pass?

Eiyuden Chonicle: Rising, Anime Meets Beat Em Up

Eiyuden Chonicle: Rising, Anime Meets Beat Em Up

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is the prequel to the upcoming Eiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes. The successor to the Suikoden. Still with me? This is a title that combines Beat em Up action with the fantasy elements and story telling of a Final Fantasy RPG.

Creating a unique RPG that could appeal to players who both like a character driven narrative but don't necessarily want slower paced action RPG's. The problem occurs when you have a design that relies on repetitive elements and elongated quest times to help pad out an overall play time that might be too much for many.

Xbox and Bethesda 2022 Showcase Reactions and Thoughts

While E3 2022 is not a thing, that didn't stop Microsoft from showing off what they have cooking for Xbox and Gamepass in 2022. With a focus on the next 12 months instead of the overall portfolio, Microsoft's show was a bit of a mixed bag. While Gamepass customers have a lot to look forward to in the next 12 months, fans awaiting to hear and see news about Perfect Dark, Fable and Avowed were left a bit underwhelmed and wanting more.

Unsouled, Too Much Soul?

Unsouled finds itself in a weird spot. Its a souls-like game that has a lot of systems and complex mechanics that are hard to master but fun to mess around with. But at the same time the world that the player has at is disposal to use the mechanics given isn't the best at times. Creating a souls-like experience that is lopsided with its pacing and as a souls-like game that presents a lot of problems.

Paradise Killer, This is No Vacation

Paradise Killer, This is No Vacation

Paradise Killer is a first person detective game that combines strong writing with a wacky world. At first glance it might appear to be very over the top and ridiculous and you would be right with that assumption. But even with its very anime style of story telling and visual art style there is a very deep detective style game here that could call out to games like Ace Attorney. However, it might also rub those people the wrong way with its traversal and convoluted clues.

Tunic, The Rebirth of The Manual

Tunic has been a game so long in development you might have forgot its been nearly 5 years since it was first shown. After such a long wait Tunic had a lot to prove. On the surface it might just look like a Zelda game with a few light Souls elements. However, very quickly players will discover a game filled with so much mystery its mind boggling. A Memoir Blue. A Poem or A Game? The World May Never Know

A Memoir Blue takes you om a journey through the life of Miriam. Told through a series of scenes that have litter interaction, players will learn about the hardship and journey of Miriam and the relationship with her mother. It's a straightforward premise that somehow sparks a debate on what actually qualifies as a game? Even though A Memoir Blue is told through stylized and strong art, the facts around what is called game play is loosely applied. But does that even matter?

Edge of Eternity and Shredders, Carving Out RPG's

Edge of Eternity and Shredders, Carving Out RPG's

This week is a bit different. Cory and Basher each played a game and are going to discuss how they felt and if you should check out these games on Game Pass.

Edge of Eternity is an RPG that dreams big with its 50-hour journey. But asking 50 hours out of player is a lot. Nailing RPG mechanics is no easy task and Edge of Eternity is a full fledge RPG with crafting and other various mechanics to aid you on your journey. But are the story and RPG mechanics strong?

Shredders is on the total opposite end of the spectrum. Taking inspiration from games like Amped, Shredders looks to have a goofy and fun time while kicking up some powder and nailing some epic tricks. The snowboarding extreme sports genre was once a hot area for games, but it peaked. Since peaking only EA has really tried again with stuff like 2012's SSX remake. Shredders is the first game in a long time trying to hit that niche but are the physics and mission structure any good to keep the player engaged?

Some people love it, some people despise it. But now with a decade of time passing, its time to go back and look at the one of the most controversial games in RPG history. Join Cory and Chris as they go over their latest playthrough of Final Fantasy 13.

Dreamscaper, Dreaming in Rouge Lite Friendships

Dreamscaper, Dreaming in Rouge Lite Friendships

Dreamscaper's premise might sound, for the lack of a better word, cringy. You play as a character who is new in town trying to fight her inner demons. These demons include being new in town and not having many friends. As well as suffering from falling into a deep dream state that requires fighting creatures of various descents and types.

But to our surprise, Dreamscaper managed to not feel weird or awkward for one minute due to smart writing and a development team who clearly put fun first over trying to force a message. Managing friendships and combat mechanics is an interesting contrast that keeps Dreamscaper being fun but also rewarding in the best ways possible.

Telling Lies, Honesty is the Best Policy?

Telling lies is a rare game in that its told completely though FMV. Developer Sam Barlow caught a lot of gamers attention with Her Story. An interactive story that unfolds as you piece together video clips you have sifted through on a sever. Telling Lies looks to expand that with multiple narrative threads that can be followed and uncovered.

But with complexity comes more avenues to create something less compelling. Does Telling Lies manage to strive where Her Story thrived and then some?

From puzzle solving down to the simple but tight combat, Death's Door is likely to win you over.

The Gunk, Are Games Too Hard for New Players?

The Gunk is a unique game. It's not super flashy and features a story that is easy to understand and be a part of it. The mechanics are not deep, and the skill tree is basic. It's not super challenging. Normally these would be bad things but in the case of The Gunk it feels almost deliberate. Perhaps it is a game that is designed for players not playing the latest Call of Duty or God of War. Thats the question we have to ask and answer on this episode about, The Gunk.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Fun but a Slow Start

Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Fun but a Slow Start

Aliens is a franchise that seems like it should be a no brainer for awesome video game adaptations. There are so many avenues a developer go with the IP considering you could take it in a multitude of different genres. But for whatever reason the amount of quality Aliens games cam be counted on one hand. Aliens Fireteam Elite looks to change that by bringing the franchise into the action survival genre.

Fireteam Elite isn't trying to do anything fancy. It knows that players want to combat aliens with the weapons they have seen on the silver screen. Its not about horror but survival and teaming up with a few friends to take down the different types of aliens and enemies along the way is surprisingly a lot of fun.

While Aliens Fireteam Elite has some rough edges with progressions and polish, its still fa better than many expected give the franchises history in game form.

Archvale, A Zelda Bullet Hellish Expereince

Archvale wears its influences on its sleeve but that doesn't stop it from being an engaging and fun experience. Armed various different types of weapons and bombs its your job to take down the evil the is spread across the land. While this may look like a typical Zelda clone players will quickly find out it is far more than that. With enemies that are dangerous and far more aggressive than you might think, this adventure is Zelda meets a Bullet Hell shooter that is challenging and gripping.
