Tsungai is a young dynamic 20yr old South African who is passionate about life and justice. She is a great musician who plays violin, piano, the voice and drums. This is what she has to say about this song that she wrote during lockdown in 2020.

2020 has been a tumultuous year full of failed expectations, incredible loss, devastation and uncertainty. Throughout this year we have been forced to sit, watch and reflect on the going’s on in our world, including the significant loss of lives at the hands of COVID-19, the daunting and heavily publicized American presidential election, and the many incidents of racism that have had the spotlight focused on them.
I wrote this song following the many reports of anger towards the protests that were breaking out all over the world in support of the black lives matter movement. I thought that there seemed to be some sort of misunderstanding as to WHY these protests were relevant. Is it that we are more concerned for the damage to infrastructure than the loss of life? The names Breonna Taylor, Collins Khosa, Tamir Rice, Tawanda Muchehiwa, Ahmaud Arbery, Nathaniel Julius and George Floyd (to name a few) should ignite anger and lament.

“Fighting For Our Lives” is a message to us all to not stand idly by whilst injustices are perpetrated against people simply because of their God-given race. These injustices inflict wounds that are constant reminders that the colour of your skin can determine your life’s worth.
The proceeds from this record sale will be donated towards transformation and diversity education within South Africa. So get listening!!!
