Wendy Darwell recently took the helm at the Suburban Hospital Alliance and its regional hospital associations – the Nassau Suffolk Hospital Council and the Northern Metropolitan Hospital Association, where she had previously served as chief operating officer. Prior to that, she worked on Capitol Hill for the late Congressman Maurice Hinchey. So she knows as well as anyone that healthcare policy is extremely complex and its repercussions can be life-altering for individuals and families. In this week’s episode, she shares her perspective on how the pandemic has affected healthcare providers, and where state and federal healthcare policy initiatives is likely to be focused for the immediate future.

The Take-Away: The relaxation of regulatory policies during the Covid-19 pandemic showed that the healthcare system can function in a less restrictive environment. This provides regulatory agencies with evidence that it may be advisable for some of the Covid-related regulatory changes to become permanent.
