Almost all aircraft problems can trace itself back to its electronics. Despite what you may think, the technology that keeps a plane’s magic going is OLDER than it seems. These fixes are also much harder than they seem and involve such adventures as untangling years’ worth of neglected wires. Avionics troubleshooting, modifications, and upgrades require a deep level of skill and understanding. We are joined by La Coyote, a former Marine aircraft mechanic, who's recently transitioned into an avionics technician and shares with us some of the common gripes, pains, and attention to detail involved with aircraft electronics. Being an avionics technician typically involves being a pseudo-engineer, and having a good understanding of schematics. We mechanics tend to make fun of avionics technicians for their lack of grease soaked work clothes and their nerdy disposition. When it comes down to it, avionics is the way of the future and it's no wonder they have more longevity than an average wrench turner.
