We want to make it absolutely clear that this is in no way a dig at ALL chiropractors. As we do mention numerous times on the podcast we believe there are two types. Evidence-based chiropractors such as Michael Ray of Barbell Medicine and then the standard chiro you see all over YouTube who follows the method of subluxation.
As you'll hear we do have boatloads of science (Scroll down for a list of studies) in regards to this topic and even with such a high volume of data we believe that things will probably not change. A chiropractor is going to get more response from someone with the sounds of cracks and ragging you about the table than talking to you and giving you action points enabling self-efficacy. Social media/ YouTube isn't helping either basically turning these guys and girls into online celebrities. ASMR springs to mind where you'll find entire videos of cracks to elicit an ASMR response. Placebo is massive here. Listen to our episode all about placebo and nocebo to hear how powerful it really is!
We have a lot of fun in this episode but in all seriousness, it is an important topic and many of you out there even without seeing one perceive seeing a chiropractor as a good/beneficial thing. It can be if you see the right ones but why is it a member of the public responsibility to investigate every chiro to ensure they are evidence-based and not just taking loads of money from you for a few nice feeling neck cracks.
